The Benefits of Using a Lip Balm: What You Need to Know

For many, a lip balm may be the first beauty product they ever owned, it certainly was for me. Decades later, it remains an integral part of my daily beauty routine, specifically haruharu wonder’s multifunctional Rose PDRN Peptide Glowy Balm.

The Rose PDRN Peptide Glowy Balm recently launched, following the success of the Rose PDRN Soothing Serum, and ROSE PDRN Firming Serum, which has fast become my cult favorite lip treatment. The Rose PDRN Lip Balm is, in my humble opinion, the best lip balm for hydration and plumping, as well as exfoliating and soothing my dry, chapped lips. This multifunctional lip balm also delivers overnight lip mask benefits when I incorporate in my evening skincare regimen, though its benefits extend beyond lip care. Here’s how to use lip balm beyond lips, and my lip balm beauty hacks.

Soothes chapped lips

Some may question what lip balms do for your lips. The answer? Plenty. Haruharu wonder’s Rose PDRN Peptide Glowy Lip Balm is a make-up and skincare hybrid as it is infused with skin-loving ingredients, such as lactic acid, ceramides, peptides, PDRN, as well as shea butter and jojoba seed oil. This vegan, cruelty-free formula offers a deep boost of hydration, gently exfoliates the lips, soothes and repairs broken skin, and strengthens the lip barrier.

According to haruharu wonder’s research, customers noticed a 95.79% improvement in moisture retention after just one use, which is an impressive statistic that I can validate. My dry, flaky and dehydrated lips felt nourished, plump and silky smooth within hours of application.

So, how does the Rose PDRN Glowy Lip Balm work? The hero ingredient is haruharu wonder’s vegan version of the coveted skincare ingredient PDRN, formally known as polydeoxyribonucleotide, which is derived from Damascus roses. There are several benefits of PDRN in lip care; it is rich in antioxidant and amino acids, which promotes cell regeneration, PDRN boosts collagen and reduces inflammation for healthy, hydrated and plump lips. Lactic acid is another key ingredient to gently exfoliate flaky skin, while the five-part peptide complex supports this exfoliation, aids repair, encourages skin renewal and smooths texture. The ceramides strengthen and protect the skin barrier, while the cushioned silicone tip, ensures gentle application on sensitive lips.

Nourishing lip mask

While I rely on my Rose PDRN Glowy Lip Balm daily, I also lather it on my lips at night as an overnight lip mask. By the morning, the powerful formulation has transformed my former dry lips to a rehydrated, soft, plump pout.

The blend of ceramides, peptides, PDRN and lactic acid, combined with nourishing shea butter and Jojoba seed oil, delivers an intense and longlasting boost of hydration my dehydrated lips are thirsty for. The inclusion of antioxidant tocopherol boosts the skin’s elasticity, but also protects the skin from environmental aggressors, which can contribute to dryness and a compromised skin barrier.

Unlike other lip products I have tested, the Rose PDRN Glowy Lip Balm has a non-slip, non-sticky, non-greasy, balm-like texture that stays put for hours, which enables the nutrient-rich formula to fully absorb into the lips for an effective reparative treatment.

Cuticle and hand care

Guiltily, my cuticles are part of my skincare regime that often get neglected. After several bouts of washing my hands throughout the day, combined with the cold weather, and central heating, it’s unsurprising my cuticles and knuckles are dry, chapped and sore.

I use the Rose PDRN lip balm for my cuticles, but as a targeted treatment. This specific application helps to soften the rough skin around my nails, and soothe my cracked skin, without making my hands greasy. For extra TLC, I massage the Black Bamboo Nourishing Calming Hand and Nail Cream into my hands.

Flyaway fixer

The slicked back bun may be considered the lazy girl hairstyle in between hair wash days, but I think a sleek updo always looks polished. My secret to achieving a slick hairstyle is to glue the pesky stray hairs down with the Rose PDRN Balm. Yes, you read that right, lip balm for flyaways!

I apply a small amount of the balm along my hairline and centre parting with my fingers, then brush through with a fine comb for a sleek finish. The balm offers a gel-like texture, rather than a greasy finish of hair oil, hairspray that goes crispy, or a wax that can leave a gloopy residue in its wake. Plus, it doubles as a scalp treatment too.

Anti-chafe and dry skin relief

The Rose PDRN Glowy Lip Balm is an ultra-gentle, clean formulation, which is free from microplastics as well as silicone, and suitable for sensitive skin. According to haruharu wonder’s study, no customer suffered any irritation after use.

While I apply on chapped lips, cracked knuckles, I also apply it other areas of my body that are irritated, dry and sore, such as my elbows. I have also used it on my heels to prevent blisters when I am breaking in new shoes, while my partner has applied on areas susceptible to chafing during his marathon training.

Make-up hacks

Lip balm is one of the most versatile products in my make-up kit. A lip balm delivers a glossy finish, whether worn on its own for a no make-up make-up look or layered over a lip liner, but it can double as a dewy highlighter, eyeshadow primer, eyebrow gel, and emollient to revive dried out cream formulas or convert powder textures into malleable liquid formulations. I told you it’s multifunctional!

Lip balm for make-up prep may sound obvious, but it’s crucial. While the Rose PDRN Glowy Lip Balm hydrates your lips, it also smooths fine lines and evens the texture, helps matte lipsticks sit seamlessly on your lips without settling in the cracks of chapped lips. Of course, you can wear the lip balm on its own for a glossy natural finish, alternatively you can layer it on top of lip liner or lipstick for a longlasting, glossy sheen.

But this lip balm offers other make-up benefits too. I recommend using it as a targeted treatment to hydrate specific dry patches, or to add a dewy finish. Dab a small amount on the high points of your cheeks for a glowy highlight, prime your eyelids ahead of applying any eyeshadow for extra sheen and a longlasting hold, or comb through your eyebrows for a faux brow lamination effect.

For an ultra-dewy make-up look, I blend the balm with my cream bronzers, liquid blushers, and tinted moisturizers. While it intensifies the glow, it also makes the product stretch further. I have also blended the balm with powder formulations to create a cream texture, which surprisingly worked.

Allergy relief

There is little worse when you have a cold, or you suffer from allergies, and your nose feels stuffy and congested. To avoid any dust or allergens creeping into my nostrils, I apply a small amount of the balm around my nostrils to trap those irritants. This may sound bizarre, and is by no means medical advice, but I find it helps me to breathe comfortably through my nose at night.

Final thoughts

While a lip balm is a failsafe beauty essential, haruharu wonder Rose PDRN Peptide Glowy Balm does more than the average lip balm. This beauty-meets-skincare hybrid is a moisturizer, plumper, exfoliant and skin barrier booster in one. The multifunctional lip balm also doubles as a lip mask, lip gloss, highlighter, make-up primer, brow gel, cuticle treatment, hand cream, hair glue, and targeted body balm, among other skincare saviors – the list goes on.

Considering its $14 price tag, its multifunctionality and efficacy, the Rose PDRN Glowy Lip Balm is great value for money, and a worthy investment I will be rebuying forever more
