One of the best things you can do for your skin is wearing sunscreen every single day. But when it comes to sunscreen makeup combos, it can feel like wearing anything over your SPF means sacrificing a smooth, crease-free base for UV protection. We’ve tried a lot of sunscreens that make our foundation and concealer get greasy, pill up, or crease throughout the day. So what’s the solution?
Personally, we’ve always believed that if we can’t find the perfect product, we’ll just make it ourselves. That’s why we spent so much time refining our Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Moisture Airyfit Daily Sunscreen SPF 50+ PA+++. If you’re new to this formula, meet our velvet-finish daily sunscreen that doubles as a makeup primer (we’ll tell you more about different ways to layer it in a bit).
Our Black Rice Moisture Airyfit sunscreen combines all the things we always wished our SPF could do. First, it provides a high level of broad-spectrum UV protection so you stay protected every day. We also wanted to make it feel like skincare, which is why we packed it with nourishing ingredients. This sunscreen gets its name from Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil + Extract, also known as Korean black rice. It’s rich in antioxidants like vitamin E, which helps protect your skin from free radical damage caused by the sun. We also infused it with moisturizing, soothing ingredients like Ceramide NP and Heartleaf Extract, plus Adenosine to help improve skin texture for a smooth complexion.
But we didn’t just want this sunscreen to feel comfortable and weightless; it had to look good too, whether worn alone or paired with our everyday base makeup. So two things were a must: zero white cast and a smooth finish that worked well with any type of makeup formula. In testing, our team members discovered it did exactly that. “It absorbs quickly, doesn’t leave a white cast, and actually makes my skin feel hydrated instead of greasy,” says our team member Pankti. “I was worried it might pill under makeup, but it layers so smoothly.”
Curious about what you can layer this sunscreen with? Below, our team breaks down four ways they incorporate Airyfit sunscreen into their makeup looks with ease.
1. Sunscreen + Cushion Foundation
If you love K-beauty, chances are you’ve got at least one cushion foundation in your collection. And Airyfit definitely passes this test. Our team member Annalisa prefers cushion formulas and loves the smooth canvas that Airyfit helps create, which prevents your cushion from looking patchy or cakey. “Since my skin is really dry, I typically start with a good moisturizer and let it absorb,” she says. Pro tip: We recommend our Centella Phyto & 5 Peptide Concentrate Cream for this step.
Since Airyfit has a more velvety finish, layering it over moisturizer is also a nice way to add more of a dewy glowy to your cushion foundation. We promise, it won’t get greasy. “After my moisturizer step, I immediately reach for my Airyfit sunscreen and apply it,” says Annalisa. “Then, I layer on my cushion foundation and concealer.” While Airyfit stays natural-looking all day and won’t get greasy, those with more oily or combination skin can also add an extra step of setting their T-zones with powder.
2. Sunscreen + Liquid Foundation (or Skin Tint)
If you prefer liquid foundations or skin tints, Airyfit is also a great option to layer underneath. “I love the glowy finish that skin tints give, but because the formulas tend to be very hydrating, I have to be careful not to layer them over a greasy sunscreen,” says Haruharu Wonder contributor Sarah. “I love the natural finish of Airyfit. It’s not full matte or drying at all, but has a semi-matte velvety finish that helps give my skin tints and liquid foundations a great canvas to cling to. One of my biggest annoyances with sunscreens is that some of them clump or pill up as soon as I apply makeup on top. This one doesn’t; it sinks in fast and stays smooth, whatever I apply on top.”
3. Sunscreen + Powder Foundation
For a filtered finish, Airyfit pairs well with powder foundation, too. “I love layering this formula with a powder foundation because it creates a flawless, natural look that lasts all day,” says our team member Madjiguene. “Using this sunscreen as a primer leaves my skin feeling incredibly smooth, which makes blending powder feel effortless. Pairing the two gives my complexion a soft matte finish without any patchiness.” Madjiguene recommends this combination if you want an “airbrushed effect that looks natural and fresh” while staying put for hours without excess shine.
4. Sunscreen + Blush
Not a fan of foundation or cushion but still want to wear some color? Airyfit still works as an excellent primer if you want to skip straight to blush, highlighter, or bronzer. “While I don’t wear foundation on a daily basis, I do enjoy using blush—whether it’s powder, cream, or liquid,” says our team member Tanusha.” After applying an even layer of Airyfit sunscreen, she blends her blush of the day directly over it. “I don’t have to worry about whether my blush will stay in place or look patchy,” she says. “This sunscreen works with everything.”
Remember: Like any sunscreen, Airyfit should be reapplied every two hours to maintain UV protection. But don’t worry; not only does it layer well under makeup, we made sure you can apply it over your makeup without disturbing it, too. “Honestly, it’s the kind of sunscreen that makes me actually want to reapply,” says Pankti. Try a tube, and see for yourself.
