There’s a Perfect Double-Cleansing Duo for Everyone — Here’s Yours

There’s a Perfect Double-Cleansing Duo for Everyone — Here’s Yours

Double-cleansing might be the single most important step in your Korean skincare routine. Just like you can’t make a Dubai Jjondeuk cookie without the crunchy kadayif filling, you can’t start a K-beauty routine without your double cleansers. They’re just that essential.

If you’re already familiar with our K-beauty cleansers, you’ll know that we’ve currently formulated four in total: Moisture 5.5 Soft Cleansing Gel, Triple AHA Gentle Cleansing Gel, Moisture Cleansing Oil, and Centella Sunflower Makeup-Melting Cleansing Balm. (Pro tip: You can also bundle our best-selling AHA gel cleanser and oil cleanser together for less when you get our Black Rice Double-Cleansing Bundle.)

While any combination of the four will give you a pretty solid cleansing experience, we personally believe there’s a perfect double-cleansing duo for everyone. Ready to find yours? Let’s go through all four routines below, so you can meet your fresh-faced match.

What is double-cleansing?

Double-cleansing isn’t just about using any two cleansers; it’s the order in which you use different types of cleansers in order to make sure your skin is fully clean, refreshed, and prepped for the rest of your routine. All double-cleansing routines start with oil-based cleansers (either in liquid oil or solid balm form) to dissolve oil-based impurities, excess sebum, waterproof or heavy makeup, and sunscreen. After you’ve gone in with your oil cleanser, it’s time to reach for a water-based cleanser to rinse away any remaining residue and refresh your complexion.

Using two different cleanser types in this order ensures that you’re thoroughly cleansing skin without stripping it or drying it out. And when your skin is truly clean, it helps your toners, serums, and moisturizers work better. (That’s why committing to the double-cleansing method is at the very top of our 2026 skin goals list.)

Our Best Korean Cleansers for Double-Cleansing

First, we need to split our cleansers into two categories: oil-based and gel-based.

In the oil cleanser category, you’ll find our Moisture Cleansing Oil and Centella Sunflower Makeup-Melting Cleansing Balm. Our gentle cleansing oil is fragrance-free and formulated with black rice to help visibly brighten and deeply nourish your skin every time you wash your face. The formula goes on comfortably light—not greasy!—and always leaves your complexion feeling hydrated and calm, never dry or uncomfortably tight. Because it’s oil-based, it easily dissolves even your most stubborn waterproof mascaras and eyeliner without feeling harsh or requiring a lot of scrubbing. Just apply it to dry skin, wet and gently massage it in, then rinse off. If you’re worried about oils causing breakouts, this one is non-comedogenic, which means it won’t clog your pores.

For the next step up in nourishment, we have our cleansing balm. In the cleansing oils vs. cleansing balms debate, both are well-suited for the first step of your double-cleanse. Balms provide an additional dose of moisture and a richer feel thanks to the solid texture (which also makes them great and mess-free to pack for travel!). Ours is formulated with soothing Centella asiatica (also known as cica), plus plant-based oils like squalane, argan, and sunflower seed. It also contains shea butter, which helps get you that silky, sorbet-like feel. Just like an oil, you should apply it on dry skin, wet and massage until it transforms into a milky texture, then rinse it off.

For the second step of your double-cleansing ritual, our water-based cleansers include the Moisture 5.5 Soft Cleansing Gel and Triple AHA Gentle Cleansing Gel. Our 5.5 gel cleanser features an especially gentle lather and formula that matches your skin’s ideal pH level. It’s infused with our favorite antioxidant-rich black rice for a natural glow, plus moisture-boosting ingredients like ginseng root. Instead of soap (which can be harsh on sensitive skin), we use natural surfactants from coconuts to cleanse without irritation.

Finally, we have what we call our “glow-in-a-bottle” cleanser, the AHA gel. This formula is infused with a trio of alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs): citric, tartaric, and mandelic. We combined these mild acids with black rice and bamboo shoot bark to help visibly even skin tone and texture, giving you a light exfoliating effect with your daily cleanse. We also added hydrators like betaine and glycerin to balance it out. Although we made this cleanser with a smoothing, glow-boosting effect in mind, we still designed it to be gentle, so you can use it every day without stressing your skin out.

Which Haruharu Wonder double-cleansing duo is right for me?

Now that you’re acquainted with our cleansers, it’s time to mix and match. Here are four combos we’ve tested, and the skin types they work best for.

1. 5.5 Gel + Cleansing Oil (oily to normal skin types)

If your skin type falls anywhere from oily to normal (including combination skin), our pH-balanced gel and lightweight cleansing oil hit the ideal point between refreshing hydration and non-stripping sebum balance. Both formulas are also great for even the most sensitive skin types, removing every trace of makeup and SPF without harsh scrubbing or drying ingredients. “I have oily skin and after a long day at work, this duo cleanses thoroughly without stripping my skin, leaving it prepped for my next skincare steps,” says our team member Kenanga.

2. 5.5 Gel + Cleansing Balm (combination, normal, and dry skin)

For dry or dehydrated skin (or even combination skin that’s more dry than oily), try swapping out your cleansing oil for a cleansing balm. This combination is equally friendly to sensitive skin, but adds extra nourishment thanks to our richer balm formula. “As someone with sensitive combination skin and a few dry patches around my cheeks, this combo works best for me,” says our team member Lea. “The balm melts my makeup away without being harsh, while the 5.5 gel keeps my skin hydrated.”

3. AHA Gel + Cleansing Oil (congested and blemish-prone skin)

Dealing with clogged pores, congestion, and blemishes? Pair AHA gel with our cleansing oil. The deep-cleansing, exfoliating acids will help clarify and smooth, while the oil cleanser dissolves excess sebum. Our team member Yazmani swears by this pairing to “keep pores clear and help control buildup in oily areas.” Best of all, they still leave her complexion balanced. “My skin feels clean, soft, and comfortable afterwards,” she says.

4. AHA Gel + Cleansing Balm (rough, unbalanced, and dull skin)

For a natural glow boost or to help smooth rough areas, AHA gel and our cleansing balm are an unbeatable duo. “Whenever my skin looks tired or loses its radiance, these two cleansers get my complexion back on track,” says contributor Sarah Y. Wu. “The gel is smoothing without feeling irritating and the balm is just incredibly luxurious. I love how soft my face feels after using these, and my glow is safely restored.”

So, what’s your double-cleansing combo of 2026? We’ll go first: One order of AHA Gel + Cleansing Balm, please.
